About this Job


The Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit is a statutorily created section within the Office of State Police, Bureau of Investigation.   The primary investigative responsibility of personnel within the section is to initiate inquiries, conduct independent investigations into allegations of insurance fraud and auto theft in any municipality or parish in the State of Louisiana, and perform other related law enforcement duties.  The incumbent of this position will function to provide investigative services designed to aid the Office of State Police in fulfilling its objectives and mission and shall be under the direct supervision of a State Police Sergeant.


Minimum Qualifications

Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR

Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Investigates violations of state criminal laws, conducts administrative investigations and investigations of regulatory violations enforced by the department through statute.
  • Gathers evidence, prepares warrants, and effects arrests.
  • Locates and interviews witnesses and testifies in court.
  • Conducts undercover operations, assumes undercover roles, and conducts physical and technical surveillance.
  • Prepares necessary reports on investigations.
  • Makes physical arrests and transports fugitives.
  • Performs background investigations.

Location: This vacancy is located in the Insurance Fraud/Auto Theft Unit in the Office of State Police, located in Calcasieu Parish.

Compensation: The compensation depends on qualifications and experience.  The minimum bi-weekly salaries are below:
  • Criminal Investigator 1 (PS-112)--$1,764.80
  • Criminal Investigator 2 (PS-113)--$1,888.00
  • Criminal Investigator 3 (PS-115)--$2,161.60
