Description
Under the limited supervision of a supervisor in the Office of Fiscal Accountability and Compliance, conducts complex investigations in the field or from the central office, involving alleged non-compliance with State statutes and regulatory requirements; takes the lead over investigative staff; and performs other related work as required.
Supports the criminal history background check process for school applicants by assisting with application review, compliance tracking, and regulatory verification. Assists the Chief of Investigators in developing and implementing investigative procedures. Coordinates investigative activities and ensures alignment with state regulations. Provides technical assistance and training to school districts on background check requirements. Leads investigative staff to ensure timely, accurate case resolution and effective communication with stakeholders.
Requirements
Education
Note: Applicants must meet one of the following or a combination of both experience and education. Thirty (30) semester hour credits are equal to one (1) year of relevant experience.
Six (6) years of professional office and/or professional field experience conducting investigations, collecting evidence, and preparing investigative reports related to criminal, civil, or regulatory matters involving fraud, misrepresentation, or other acts of criminal or civil misconduct; or as a police officer performing criminal follow-up investigations (not preliminary investigations).

Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; and two (2) years of the above-mentioned professional experience.
or
Possession of a Master's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Social Work, or Criminal Justice; and one (1) year of the above-mentioned professional experience.
Note: "Professional experience" refers to work that is creative, analytical, evaluative, and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the profession's principles, concepts, theories, and practices; and is performed with the authority to act according to one's own judgment and make accurate and informed decisions.
Preferred Education/Experience
Two (2) or more years of experience serving in a lead role coordinating investigative activities, compliance processes, or criminal history background checks.
