Summary

The Fraud Specialist is responsible for safeguarding the company’s e-commerce operations by monitoring, detecting, investigating, and resolving fraudulent activity. Reporting directly to the eCommerce Manager, this role supports revenue protection and customer trust by ensuring that fraud prevention measures are effective, compliant, and aligned with company objectives. The Fraud Specialist partners closely with customer service, IT, finance, and operations teams to implement strategies that minimize risk without compromising the customer experience.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily e-commerce transactions to identify suspicious activity, trends, or patterns that may indicate fraud.
  • Investigate and resolve potential fraud cases, including chargebacks, account takeovers, and payment disputes.
  • Collaborate with the eCommerce Manager to develop and refine fraud detection rules, thresholds, and monitoring tools.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of fraud cases, investigations, and outcomes for internal tracking and compliance.
  • Analyze data and provide regular reports on fraud trends, prevention effectiveness, and financial impact.
  • Partner with IT to evaluate and implement fraud detection technologies and system enhancements.
  • Work with customer service to resolve customer disputes related to fraud while ensuring a positive customer experience.
  • Support training efforts for the e-commerce team on fraud awareness, prevention, and reporting procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, payment processor requirements, and company policies regarding fraud prevention.
  • Participate in audits and assist in developing internal controls to strengthen fraud defense mechanisms.

  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to work in an office setting with prolonged periods of computer use.
  • Occasionally required to stand, bend, or lift objects up to 15 lbs.

Required Education/Experience/Skills 

  • 2+ years of experience in fraud detection, e-commerce risk management, or financial investigations.
  • Strong knowledge of payment processing systems, chargeback management, and online fraud schemes.
  • Proficiency with Excel, reporting tools, and fraud monitoring software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred Education/Experience/Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Criminal Justice, or related field.
  • Experience working in e-commerce or retail environments.
  • Familiarity with SQL or data analytics tools.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards (PCI DSS, GDPR, etc.).
