Position Summary
As the Manager of Fraud Operations you will be anticipating financial and fraud threats, building resilient systems, and making a tangible impact on our business and the customers we serve.
You will lead a team responsible for identifying, analyzing, and mitigating financial and fraud risks across our platforms. This role demands a strategic thinker with deep expertise in risk operations, fraud detection, and regulatory compliance, especially in fintech or banking environments.
Key Responsibilities
Fraud Strategy & Investigation
- Develop and maintain expertise across financial products and tools to identify, troubleshoot, and assess emerging risk factors.
- Analyze data using custom SQL queries and existing reports to detect anomalies and apply mitigation strategies.
- Review queued cases to determine fraud legitimacy and provide feedback on prevention and detection strategies.
- Lead tactical fraud teams to assess, quantify, and mitigate operational risks.
- Educate internal teams on fraud behaviors and risk indicators.
- Build and refine fraud detection models and workflows to improve accuracy and reduce false positives.
- Liaise with federal and state law enforcement agencies where applicable to support investigations and enforcement actions.
Risk Management
- Conduct thorough assessments on taxpayer and preparer accounts for indicators of fraud and identity theft.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex customer issues, ensuring empathetic and risk-aware resolutions.
- Monitor team performance against KPIs, identify operational gaps, and develop action plans to address risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align risk strategy with product and policy development.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements across all fraud and risk operations.
Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Manage and coach a team of analysts, fostering a culture of performance, integrity, and continuous improvement.
- Lead change management initiatives to prepare the team for future-state operations.
- Routinely assess workflows for improvement opportunities using both quantitative and qualitative data.
- Develop compelling business cases to drive holistic improvements in fraud response and risk containment.
- Support hiring and onboarding efforts for new team members, including participation in interview panels and training programs.
Required Expereince
- Active certification in CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist), or CAFS (Certified Anti-Fraud Specialist).
- Familiarity with IRS Publication 7216 and FTC Safeguards Rule.
- Proven experience liaising with federal and state law enforcement agencies on fraud-related matters.
- 2–3 years of experience managing high-performing teams in financially regulated environments.
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in SQL and spreadsheet-based investigations.
- Proven ability to operate in fast-paced, ambiguous environments with multiple priorities.
- Exceptional communication, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Experience with small business or commercial underwriting.
- Familiarity with fraud platforms, case management systems, and data visualization tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in fraud analysis, risk management, or related fields within fintech, banking, or financial services.
- Experience in tax-related industries or public sector environments.
